About Buenaventura
Buenaventura is a secluded and private riverside sanctuary and retreat center set deep within the rainforest of Costa Rica’s Savegre River Valley. Built for simplicity and restoration, it is a quiet place where nature sets the pace and modern distractions fall away.
Surrounded by old-growth forest, waterfalls, and one of the cleanest rivers in the country, Buenaventura offers an off-grid environment for rest, focus and reconnection, both personal and communal. Buenaventura is also a working organic Food Forest & Cacao Farm (Chocolate) planted in the Fibonacci Sequence.
The Land
The retreat sits on 160 acres (65 hectares) of mountainous rainforest spanning both sides of the Río División, bordering the Los Santos Forest Reserve and the greater Talamanca corridor. This ecologically rich region is home to diverse wildlife, pristine waterways, and protected cloud forest.
There are no nearby tourist developments or visible neighbors. Access is intentionally limited, preserving privacy, stillness and a deep sense of immersion in nature.
The Retreat Experience
Buenaventura welcomes individuals, couples, families, and small groups seeking a slower, more grounded way of being. Stays range from short off-grid resets to longer immersions, with space for quiet work, shared meals, movement and time outdoors.
Reliable internet is available for those working remotely or building creative projects, allowing for focused work within a calm, natural setting.
Rather than rigid programming, guests are invited to follow their own rhythm and let the environment do the work.
Our Approach
Buenaventura is not a luxury resort and not a performance-driven retreat center. It is a working piece of land cared for with intention, offering an honest experience of rainforest living and rural Costa Rican culture.
Those drawn to simplicity, nature and presence tend to feel most at home here.
Our Location
Buenaventura is located in a remote and isolated “Hike In Only” river-front location within the Savegre River Watershed Valley, 17 miles from the Pacific Coast and 21 miles from the city of San Isidro de El General. Access to Buenaventura during the rainy season is only accesible from/to San Isidro, while during the dry season, Buenaventura can be reached from a coastal road that is accessed halfway between Manuel Antonio and Dominical.
